"Riding is a sport and a hobby in which you never stop learning"

At Ivanhoe, we believe that developing equestrian skill is more than just learning to ride. Clients may assist in the day to day care of their horse before and after their lesson; this may include grooming and tacking up, or assisting with feeds and turnout.

We expect riders to actively participate in lessons, and to develop their feel and intuition for how their riding may affect the horse.

Young children (minimum age 7) learn through the context of games and competition. We hold regular stable management and riding test days and our annual summer camps are well attended by the under 12 age group where they can learn more about the daily routine of their favourite ponies.

As riders get older the style of teaching changes to encourage them to understand more about the correct schooling of horses, and how to work their horse to its benefit.

All our adult group lessons take place in 'open order', allowing each participant to work to their individual goals.

Whilst all lessons are held indoors and flatwork based, specialist sessions can be arranged to work on showjumping, on the cross country course or even try sidesaddle riding.

Our Horses

We currently have nine horses and ponies at Ivanhoe Equestrian, who range from a 13hh Exmoor Pony to a 16.3hh ex-racehorse. All of our equines are carefully selected and trained in order that they are safe but responsive.

They all come from pony club or competition backgrounds, and some are still out competeing at all levels. They are all capable of Novice/ Elementary dressage movements and to jump a 2'9'' course - however they are equally well placed teaching a new rider the basics.
