Snow & Ice Updates

January 05, 2012Posted by Emma & Elsbeth

Unfortunately we have had to take the decision to cancel riding lessons for this week. Whilst the snow is very pretty, it is also somewhat treacherous once it has frozen over - the car park and paths to the yards and arenas are treacherous on two legs, let alone for horses on four!

Please keep an eye on our website, facebook page and twitter feed for updates regarding lessons this weekend.

In the meantime - wrap up warm and enjoy the snow!

Do you have a bit to give?

Here at Ivanhoe we are collecting bits for the Gambia Horse And Donkey Trust "Bit Appeal"

"We are in desperate need of donations of UK style bits to distribute to local farmers. Many owners work their horses and donkeys using barbaric rusty Senegalese bits or simply rope tied through their animals' mouths. As you can imagine, this causes horrific mouth injuries. Many of the horses and donkeys we treat have wounds which are so easily avoidable by using a correct bit. Sadly, the poor quality of the metal out in the Gambia means that it is not possible to manufacture UK style bits in the country, and as such we rely entirely on shipping out donated bits from the UK. When having a tack room clear out, or when purchasing a new bit, please give your old one a second life, and donate it to the Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust"

We have had a good clearout through our tackrooms, and also put a collection box in Reception, which will be available during February. Have you - or your friends and family - got a simple snaffle bit to spare? If you would still like to help, a donation of £5 can enable the trust to purchase a suitable bit for the Trust to exchange on your behalf.

Welcome to our new look website! We hope you like it. We will use this page to blog about all the results, news, events and happenings at Ivanhoe.

Many thanks to you all for your kind cards and gifts over Christmas - we hope you all had a lovely time. Our horses are very much enjoying their well deserved rest, and appreciating the very mild winter - compared to last year!

The riding school will open again on Tuesday, the 10th January.
